Mental illness is a serious problem in society today and one that I feel is too often brushed under the carpet. I wonder why that is? Maybe it’s because the pain isn’t physical? I’m not too sure what the answers are but all I know is that the statistics for mental illness are completely and utterly shocking.
One in 4 people will experience some kind of mental health issue in a year. Anxiety and depression are the most common forms of mental health problems in the UK and 400 per population of 100,000 will self-harm in some way.
A variety of things may cause us to be more affected by mental health issues than we should be. Family issues, financial issues, addiction and more. Many have struggled so much that they have had suicidal thoughts, and some have even gone the whole nine yards by taking their own life.
It is my prayer that we all find hope in our difficult situations and here are 5 Bible verses that I find really encouraging.
Fear not, for I am with you; be not dismayed, for I am your God; I will strengthen you, I will help you, I will uphold you with my righteous right hand.
When the righteous cry for help, the Lord hears and delivers them out of all their troubles. The Lord is near to the brokenhearted and saves the crushed in spirit. Many are the afflictions of the righteous, but the Lord delivers him out of them all. He keeps all his bones; not one of them is broken.
I can do all things through him who strengthens me.
The Lord will fight for you, and you have only to be silent.
For I know the plans I have for you, declares the Lord, plans for welfare and not for evil, to give you a future and a hope.
